This visualization is intended to help your brain build an understanding of how to have mastery over blood vessel dilation and increase blood flow to different parts of your body. For many individuals with chronic pain, muscles have tightened up around the painful areas, increasing the pain, and reducing blood flow. By enhancing blood flow, many individuals with pain report a significant reduction in muscle tension and reduction in pain intensity. Like Passive Sensory Attention, this skill may also release natural opioids.  We use a visualization to help your brain understand how to engage blood vessel dilation, but the visualization is not necessary. At any time you wish to disengage from the visualization and simply focus on the warming sensations of the body areas please feel free to do so.
